President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, 7th of August 2020 in Abuja assented to the Companies and Allied Matters, CAMA, Bill, 2020 passed by the National Assembly with the Senate version passed on the 10th March, 2020 following the House of Representatives passage of the counterpart version on Thursday, 17th January, 2019.
The new Act repeals the three decades old Companies and Allied Matters Act, Cap. C20, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 which had survived past repeal effort with PresIdent Buhari specifically withholding assent to the 8th National Assembly's CAMA bill in May 2018.
The CAMA 2020 re-enacts traditional company law principles for the incorporation and management of companies while introducing some new provisions like limited liability partnerships, limited partnerships, registration of business names together with incorporation of trustees of certain communities, bodies, associations; and for related matters.
